BOOK SPACE OPENING EVENT

BOOK SPACE OPENING EVENT

Choosing books can reveal a person’s taste, but it can also bring different times and cultures together. From June 12 to 14, Khakis Seongsu hosted a small bookstore featuring a selection of books collected by Hi Bridge Books over the years.

The selection included Kyoichi Tsuzuki’s 《Tokyo Style》, which documents residential spaces in 1990s Tokyo, Japanese culture magazines 《relax》 and 《H》, and 《A Magazine Curated By》 featuring Jun Takahashi as guest curator. Photobooks, vintage books, independent publications, and Japanese titles rarely available in Korea were all brought together in one place.

Hi Bridge Books is an independent bookstore founded in Yoyogi-Hachiman, Tokyo, in 2023. Director Yuka Takahashi selects and introduces books through her own point of view, drawing on her experience as a buyer and curator at the art bookshop Komiyama Shoten. The name Hi Bridge Books reflects the idea of connecting people and books, as well as different cities and cultures.

Rather than focusing on categories such as new releases, vintage books, photobooks, art books, or independent publications, Hi Bridge Books places more importance on the character of each book and how different books relate to one another when brought together. This approach has naturally shaped a collection that spans different genres and periods.

On the first day, Yuka joined us in Seongsu for the opening reception. To mark the occasion, we also introduced Khakis-exclusive items featuring graphics by photographer Joshua Gordon. T-shirts, tote bags, and keychains were presented alongside the books throughout the space.

Some of the books from the three-day event are still available at Khakis Seongsu. Take some time to browse the selection from Hi Bridge Books and find a book that speaks to you.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.
